Nestling at the foothills of an
iron-age fort, in a secluded valley that leads to the beach, at a point where the Severn Sea meets the holy Atlantic seaboard
lies the latest holiday accommodation to grace the historic town of Llantwit Major - the earliest seat of Christian learning
in Great Britain and it is also accredited as being the first university town. Rosedew Farm is believed to have its
origins in the Welsh translation 'Rhosdew' meaning 'Fat Land' a description most befitting for it is known
that the Vale of Glamorgan literally fed major towns and the city of Cardiff. This fertile land was once known
as the garden of Wales and today your hosts Rhodri and Gaynor Davies still play an important part in feeding the nation, Rosedew
is a working 2500 acre mixed arable and pastoral farm and Rhodri and Gaynor boast of fifteen generations
of farming experience behind them. Originally from Newcastle Emlyn and Llanfair Clyndogau, Lampeter, the couple moved
from their respective family farms in a challenge to set up their own. The quest led them to Llantwit Major where they have
become an integral part of the close-knit community, serving not only as employers and growers, they also sponsor many local
events and Rhodri has become one of the main sponsor of Llantwit Major Rugby Football Club. The family are bi-lingual,
Cymraeg (Welsh) being their first language but Gaynor is also conversant in French, Spanish as well of course English.
The couple are no strangers to the hospitality industry as both sets of their parents have been successfully running farm
cottages and catering companies in West Wales. This combined knowledge has led them to their latest venture to convert
and renovate some of the traditional stone barns into bespoke holiday accommodation at Rosedew and in doing so have helped
to satisfy the demand for affordable quality holiday cottages to serve the expanding tourism requirements in the Vale of Glamorgan
and beyond. The Farmers Barns conversions have been built to exacting standards underpinned with a strong ecological green
ethos and low carbon footprint. The many original features and 'Cool Cymru' interiors complete with full size
kitchen appliances make the cottages a joy for self catering. Gaynor includes a 'Welcome Pack' which
serves as a taster to the wonderful gastronomic delights and produce the local area has to offer.
